Environmentally Friendly Housing – A Commitment to Living Beyond Green

Living Beyond Green is The Dinerstein Companies' commitment to developing environmentally friendly housing, including eco-friendly luxury apartments and green student housing communities. Building properties that meet the highest standards of the U.S. Green Building Council (USGBC) for performance and sustainability, The Dinerstein Companies set multiple LEED® green building firsts in the multi-housing industry.

Environmentally Friendly Housing Firsts

Most renters had never heard the phrase LEED apartments when The Dinerstein Companies made a Living Beyond Green commitment in 2008. The companies worked diligently, planning and developing environmentally friendly housing communities that also offered the style, luxury and endless amenities their properties are known for.

Sterling University Housing (SUH), a Dinerstein company, developed the first privately-funded off-campus student housing community to seek LEED Gold certification. SUH also built the first student housing community to seek LEED Silver certification in Florida.

The Dinerstein Companies built the first LEED Platinum Certified community in Houston, TX in 2012. Not only was The Millennium Uptown, the first conventional apartment community in Houston to reach LEED Platinum Certification, it was one of the first in the country.

The Dinerstein Companies had other LEED firsts as well, including the first apartments in The Woodlands, Texas and in California's San Fernando Valley to pursue LEED Silver certification. Read more about these environmentally friendly apartments and green student housing apartments.

How Living Beyond Green Benefits You

If you're living in one of the environmentally friendly housing communities, you're already aware of some of the benefits: a healthier indoor air quality, energy-saving measures that reduce energy costs while helping to sustain the environment, preferred parking for fuel efficient vehicles, onsite recycling.

But did you know the developer took great care to reduce the impact of building on the natural surroundings? Or that the communities were designed and built to maximize natural day light and reduce light pollution at night? Read more about Dinerstein's eco-friendly building practices.
